Completed Research Projects

Neural Substrates of Dieting (Eric Stice, Oregon Research Institute) – This study investigated the neural, attentional, and inhibitory control differences that may exist between adolescent females who report restrained eating habits and those who do not report these habits. This is an important question, as these reports of restrained eating have been found to predict subsequent bulimic pathology. The hypothesized differences in this study were measured by functional imaging during a traditional attention network test, a go – no go task, and analysis of brain activity in response to images and tastes of food.

Functional Imaging of Drug Abuse – Using a select group of adolescent drug users, this project studies the impact of drugs on brain function and development and how it differs from that of non-users (i.e. differences between reaction rates and brain activity).

Functional Imaging in Stroke Rehabilitation – The goal of this research is to understand how handedness impacts cortical plasticity and functional outcome in a population with stroke.  more...

Full Visual Field Retinotopy: Neuroplasticity in the Deaf – The goal of this research is to engineer a full visual field stimulator, add the far periphery to visuotopic mapping, and examine how a congenitally deaf person might rewire cortical visual areas.
